Iron Will

The Grand Marais Public Library hosts the movie Iron Will, Saturday, January 21st at 6 pm. This is a true-life story of courage, determination and triumph. Much of the film was shot on location in northern Minnesota 24 years ago.
 

And on Friday, January 27th, at 1 pm, Joe and Robin of Iron Will Exhibition, will show the sled and other items used in the Iron Will movie. They will talk about the process of dog sledding, and have one of their sled dogs present. More information is available at 387-1140.

Cook County AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA Weekend Meetings, January 21st and 22nd

Nature program about Lake Superior

The Grand Marais Public Library hosts Tuesday pre-school storytimes from 10:30 to 11:15 am, through February 28th. Storytimes will include songs and fingerplays.

The Library’s kids’ winter reading program, “Paul Bunyan’s Big Read,” also runs through February 28th. Program supplies can be picked up at the library. There will be a drawing for Audrey Wood’s book, The Bunyans.

Grant-writing workshop

"There's a Bald Eagle in the Library!"

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

Three-day welding course

Cook County Higher Education is holding a three-day welding course Friday, January 27th through Sunday, January 29th at the Cook County High School industrial tech room. Instructor Don Hammer will teach students basic welding fundamentals of gas and electric welding and cutting procedures. John Beargrease sled dog marathon

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is Sunday, January 29th through Thursday, February 2nd.  The race starts near Two Harbors, the mid-distance race finish is at Trail Center on the Gunflint Trail, and the full marathon turn-around is at Mineral Center in Grand Portage. Check points are accessible by car and allow spectators close-up access to the teams. Volunteers are needed for road crossings, start and finish lines, vet checks, timing, and more.
