Adult Basic Education Courses

AEOA in Grand Marais offers Adult Basic Education courses on Tuesdays from 2:30 - 8 pm and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 2 pm at 15 North Broadway (also known as the City Hall Building). Courses include GED Preparation, Computer Basic Skills, College Prep Classes and more.

The Hospice Foundation hosts a Living with Grief Program Thursday, April 19, from 2-4 pm at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, lower level classroom. The program is an inspiring webinar about positive change and action by the bereaved in the aftermath of a loss, with stories of people who found meaning and purpose through loss and provide self-help advice. Sawtooth Elementary Kindergarten New Student and Parent Visit Night

Sawtooth Mountain Elementary hosts a new student and parent night for upcoming kindergarteners and their families on Thursday, April 19, 3:15-4:30 pm.  The program will be held in the kindergarten classrooms (Rooms 457 & 455 at Sawtooth Elementary).  All Sawtooth Elementary staff will be there from 3:30-4 pm to answer questions about K-5 programming as well.  More information at 387-2271, extension 455 or 457.

Cook County AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA Meetings, Thursday, April 19th

There are regular meetings of AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA in Cook County and there's a complete weekly schedule on our website,

On Thursdays:

There's a Women's AA meeting, noon at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais;

There's an AA open meeting and discussion, 6:30 pm in the Lutsen Fire Hall meeting room;

There's an AA meeting, 7 pm in the Grand Portage Lodge, Room 232;

There's an AA Big Book Study Group, 7 pm at the Senior Center in Grand Marais.


Tree seedlings

Hedstrom Lumber Company offers tree seedlings, including red pine and white spruce, to the public, with up to 250 seedlings per household.  Anyone interested should email, with the number of seedlings and species desired by April 20.  Pickup day will be Friday, May 4. 

"Percussion of the World" featuring Robin Anders

The Grand Marais Public Library presents "Percussion of the World" featuring Robin Anders on Friday, April 20, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. It's a demonstration of several different drums and percussion instruments from many cultures, and will also include an audience participation segment at the end. Shrek The Musical Jr

The Grand Marais Playhouse is presenting Shrek The Musical Jr, beginning Friday, April 20.  The play is a shortened version of the full-length musical which the Playhouse will produce this summer.  The play opens Friday at 7 pm and runs April 20-22 and 27-29.  Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm.  More information at, or by phone at (218)-387-1284 x2

Grand Marais Earth Day Clean Up

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, and on Saturday, April 21 a variety of events are scheduled in Grand Marais. There will be a community beach clean up from 11 am-1 pm at Harbor Park.  There will be activities for kids, including a coloring contest from Cook County Soil and Water.  Later in the day at 3 pm, there will be a March for Science at Harbor Park, with speakers from 3:30-4:30.  At 5 pm, Voyageur Brewing hosts Dr. John Green for a presentation on our geological foundations.  Finally, the Grand Marais Public Library hosts a screening of the film "A Plastic Ocean" at 7 pm.

Care Partners Senior Rides Driver Training

Care Partners will be holding a volunteer training for the Senior Rides Program on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am to noon.
Volunteer Senior Rides Drivers provide rides to those 60 and over for medical, and wellness activities to Duluth or in Cook County.
