​The Wall That Heals

The Wall That Heals is open to the public at no charge, 24 hours a day, through Sunday, July 23rd at the Barker’s Island Pavilion in Superior, Wisconsin. The wall is a 250-foot, half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, with more than 58,000 names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Karnival on the Kam

Fort William Historical Park introduces Karnival on the Kam, a celebration of Ontario and Canada’s 150th birthdays. The carnival continues through Sunday, July 23rd, from noon to midnight. Events include skydiving shows, a big top circus, water shows, timber sports, and much more. Board Across the Bay race is a stand-up paddle board event held on Chequamegon (sha-WAH-mah-gun) Bay of Lake Superior in Washburn, Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday, July 21st and 22nd. Activities begin at 3 p.m. Friday, and registration opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Categories include 3-, 7-, and 14-mile races, as well as demos, challenges, relays, and others. Household hazardous waste collection

There is a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, July 22nd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cook County Recycling Center in Grand Marais. There is no charge to dispose of paints and stains, pesticides, aerosols, some batteries, fluorescent tubes, and more. A complete list of acceptable and non-accepted items is available at 387-3044.
 

Interpretive hikes July 22nd

Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center hosts interpretive hikes, Saturdays, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Attendees will meet at the Nature Center wearing appropriate footwear for exploring on uneven ground. All hikes are family friendly and open to the public. Donations are appreciated. More information is available at chik-wauk.com.

Flower Show, “Contain It!”

The event will showcase creative flower arrangements, and members will answer questions about gardening and flower arranging. Tea will be served. Harbor walking tour July 22nd

The Cook County Historical Museum hosts a harbor walking tour on Saturdays, from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will view photos and hear about the development of the harbor and the community, and learn how the harbor was once a logging industry shipping mecca.
