On Fridays, there's an "As Bill Sees It" Discussion Group Open Meeting, at 7:30 pm, at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

On the Line: a Military History of Cook County

The Cook County Historical Society is opening its special exhibit: On the Line: a Military History of Cook County over Memorial Day weekend. The Historical Society Museum, at 8 South Broadway, will be open Friday through Sunday, May 26 – 28, 11 a.m. to 4 pm. and on Memorial Day, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The historical society invites the public to come see the exhibit which covers 150 years of Cook County’s involvement in military conflicts. 
 

Art Along the Lake

Art galleries along the North Shore invite you to Art Along the Lake, Friday through Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th through the 28th. Cook County Senior Center Lunch Friday, May 26th

The Cook County Senior Center in Grand Marais serves lunch every weekday at noon. Today's meal is chicken enchilada, re-fried beans, corn, fruit, and milk. Reservations must be made by 9:30 this morning at 387-2660.

 

Individuals to serve on board of directors

The Grand Marais Music Collaborative is looking for individuals to serve on their board of directors. Second Annual LeGrand Du Nord

Coast Guard Station in Grand Marais

The Second Annual LeGrand Du Nord is Saturday, May 27th in Grand Marais. There are 100 mile and 50 mile courses starting at the Coast Guard Station. Post-race festivities will be held at Voyageur Brewing Company. Registration is required at heck of the north dot com.
 

​Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center

Chik-Wauk Museum is open daily May 27 through October 22, from 10 am to 5 pm. The Nature Center is open from 11 am to 4 pm. This year’s temporary exhibit is on the tenth anniversary of the Ham Lake Fire. More information is available from Bonnie Schudy, chikwauk@boreal.org, or 218-388-9915.
 

Annual pancake breakfast

YMCA Camp Menogyn on West Bearskin Lake hosts their annual pancake breakfast Sunday, May 28th, from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations are suggested, and the menu includes pancakes, maple syrup, sausage, juice, coffee and milk. The camp will offer a shuttle service across the lake from the boat landing just past Hungry Jack Lodge – and more information is available from Claire, by phone, at 388-4497.

American Legion Post 413 Memorial Day events

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held on the lawn of the Cook County courthouse at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 29. American Legion Post 413 conducts this ceremony.
Following the service, at about 11:30 a.m.  a luncheon will be held for veterans, friends and family members at Grandma Ray’s in Grand Marais. There is no charge for veterans at the luncheon. 

Free home smoke detectors

The American Red Cross is offering free home smoke detectors to everyone. An ARC volunteer will install new 10-year units in your home. Appointments are available at 612-460-3674, and get a smoke alarm dot org.
