Play Nintendo Wii at the Senior Center

Where: 
Cook County Senior Center, Grand Marais

Everyone is invited to play Nintendo Wii at the Grand Marais Senior Center. No experience is necessary. The game was earned by Cook County third graders and donated to the Senior Center. Call the center at 387-2660 for more information.  The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.

Safe Child Exchange Site

Who: 
North Shore Visitation Center

Separated or divorced parents who need a safe place to exchange children between them may contact the North Shore Visitation Center. The center offers a safe child exchange site in Grand Marais twice each week. More information is available at 370-1677 or 387-2522.

Foot Care Clinic

Where: 
Senior Center, Grand Marais

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health and Human Services offer a foot care clinic at the Senior Center in downtown Grand Marais on the third Tuesday of each month. The clinic is held from 9 to 11 AM on a first-come, first-served basis. People seeking foot care are asked to bring their own soap, towel and bucket for soaking their feet. WIC Program for Young Families

The Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program, better known as WIC, is available for women who are pregnant or recently had babies. Parents of children under the age of five also are eligible for WIC. A family that qualifies for the WIC program receives education about nutrition, healthy foods from the grocery store every month, health and growth checkups for children, and breastfeeding information and support. Grand Marais Art Colony classes, events, and announcements

Where: 
Grand Marais Art Colony

The Grand Marais Art Colony offers exhibits, events, activities and classes in a variety of media and for adults and kids. Classes are held from 9 am to 4 pm unless otherwise noted.

The Grand Marais Art Colony is located at 1st Street and 3rd Avenue. The Art Colony and gift shop are open from 9 am to 4 pm daily. More information about courses and events and registration are available at 387-2737 or arts@boreal.org, and on the website, www.grandmaraisartcolony.org.

AARP Driver Safety Classes

Minnesota drivers aged 55+ receive a 10% auto insurance discount by taking an approved eight-hour driver safety/accident reduction class. Drivers maintain the discount by taking a four-hour refresher class every three years. AARP sponsors the beginning and refresher classes at various locations in Cook County.

AARP members receive a discount.

People unable to fit a class into their schedules can take the AARP classes online and will receive the statutory insurance discount. The link is www.aarpdriversafety.org.

Care Partners seeks “Senior Rides” volunteers

Who: 
Care Partners of Cook County

Care Partners of Cook County seeks additional volunteer drivers for their “Senior Rides” program. The volunteers provide rides for those 60 and older to out-of-county medical, dental, and eye appointments, to meet tranportation needs not met by Arrowhead Transit or friends and relatives. In addition, Senior Rides offers transportation within Cook County for medical appointments, as well as wellness and social activities. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose their assignments.

Cook County Community Education hosts a variety of classes and events for youth and adults.

Drury Lane Books events

Drury Lane Books, on the East Bay in downtown Grand Marais, hosts a variety of events and readings.

North House Folk School classes, events, and activities

North House Folk School, Grand Marais

North House Folk School, on the harbor in Grand Marais, offers classes in northern craft and hosts a variety of public events and activities.

The North House Folk School campus is located at 500 West Hwy 61, on the harbor in Grand Marais. Local residents receive a 25% discount on class fees.
