Sawtooth Elementary School Food Drive

The Sawtooth Elementary School is collecting donations of canned and non-perishable food until June 3rd, to benefit the local food shelf. Donations can be sent with a student or given to Kris Hoffman, the school counselor.  WTIP is participating as an additional drop-off site.  Monetary donations are also welcome.  The goal for the food drive is 1500 items, and the class that brings the most items by Friday May 27 will win a party from Mr. Hoffman and his Advisory Council, and gets to shave Mr. Hoffman’s head at the talent show June 1st.
 

Historic Chippewa City Church open Memorial Day weekend

The historic St. Francis Xavier’s Church at Chippewa City will be open for tours over Memorial Day Weekend.  Hours are from noon to 2 pm on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29.  Tours are free, and the church is located one mile east of Grand Marais on Highway 61.  More information is available from the Cook County Historical Society by phone at 387-2883, or online at www.cookcountyhistory.org.
 

Weekend May 29-29 AA Meetings

There are regular meetings of AA, Al-Anon, and CoDA in Cook County.
Saturdays, there's an Open Meeting at 7 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland.
Sundays, there's a Big Book Study Group at 6:30 pm at the Lutsen Town Hall.

Local Memorial Day services/observation

There will be Memorial Day services at the Maple Hill Cemetery Church at 9:00 am on Monday, May 30. Reverend Kris Garey will preside at this annual service.

Also, there will be a Veterans service on the Courthouse lawn at 11 am on Monday, May 30, followed by lunch at Grandma Rays (formerly the Legion).  
 

ServSafe Food Manager Certification and Renewal Training May 31

Cook County Higher Education is offering ServSafe Food Manager Certification and Renewal Training, 
Tuesday, May 31st,  with instructor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux. The full course is 8 am to 5:30 pm, 
and the renewal course is 8 am to noon. 
The training is designed to fulfill requirements for state and local health departments for safe food service.

Art ' Round Town in Grand Marais

Art 'Round Town invites artists to submit banner designs for the downtown light posts in Grand Marais. The designs should be seasonal, appropriate to the area, and reproducible as one and two color screen prints. All entries will be voted on by attendees at an art show June 10-12, and then the committee will choose the final designs. The deadline for design submission is June 1 at the Betsy Bowen Studio. 6th Annual Gala for the Grove June 18

The 6th Annual Gala for the Grove is June 18th at the Lakeside Ballroom at Surfside in Tofte. 
Social time begins at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, auction and raffle at 7:30, followed by music. 
Proceeds support Birch Grove Community School.
