Geology walk

Sugarloaf Cove hosts a geology walk on Sunday, June 25th at 1:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the formation of the Sawtooth Mountains, agates and Thompsonites, as well as the common rocks in the area. More information is available at sugarloaf northshore.org.

Phyllis Sherman, a volunteer for the DNR’s Loon-Watch program

Work-project on the Poplar to Lizz Lake portage

The Northwoods Volunteer Connection is hosting a work-project on the Poplar to Lizz Lake portage. Volunteers will meet at Rockwood Outfitters, Sunday, July 1st, at 8 a.m. and then paddle to the Lizz Lake portage and build a boardwalk.   Register with Laurel at 218-663-8608 by Saturday, June 24th. Hike 100 Challenge

North Country National Scenic Trai

The North Country Trail Association sponsors the Hike 100 Challenge, which encourages people to hike 100 miles on the North Country National Scenic Trail – the NTC for short. The challenge started last year in honor of the National Park Service’s Centennial and is being repeated this year. To complete the challenge, you must hike 100 miles on the NCT before December 31.
