Family fishing event on Lax Lake August 20th

Tettegouche (tetta-goosh) State Park will host a family fishing event on Sunday, August 20th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Lax Lake. The program will teach the basics of fishing, including casting, knot tying, and catch and release techniques. Minnesota residents do not need a license for this event. Bone Builders class informational meeting

A new exercise class informational meeting will be held Wednesday, August 23rd from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Birch Grove Community Center. The Bone Builders class is a national program that’s known to treat and prevent osteoporosis, and increase strength and balance. The Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Healthy Shorelands Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 24th, at Rockwood Lodge. The interactive workshop will teach how a shoreland buffer on your property helps keep the water clean. More information is available at 387-3648. Rockwood Lodge is on the Gunflint Trail about 50 miles from Grand Marais.

The Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District invites you to a complimentary event Friday, August 25th. Attendees will meet at the (skop) Schaap Mid-Trail Community Center at 9 a.m. for inside and outside classroom time, including riding a pontoon to learn about aquatic vegetation. Lunch will be served. Pre-registration is requested at 387-3647.

The Oral Health Task Force is offering free fluoride well-testing for families, day-cares, and other homes where children either live or visit on a consistent basis. This offer includes pre-natal moms and young adults up to 26 years old. More information is available from Georgene at 218-387-2334

Complimentary meals for youth ages 18 and younger

Cook County YMCA and ISD 166 host complimentary meals this summer at the YMCA. Meals are served Mondays through Fridays, for youth ages 18 and younger. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 to noon. Reservations can be made on Fridays for the days in the following week you wish to attend, at 387-3386, with Emily Marshall. 
 

Hiring international workers workshop

Speakers will be Loan Huynh (WIN) of Frederickson & Byron in Minneapolis, focusing on the H2B program; and Bruce Kerfoot, sponsor for the J1 student exchange program.
