Firewise Demonstration Day Events

Cook County Firewise offers Firewise Demonstration Day events on Thursday and Friday, July 5 & 6, to discuss how all of us living in the forest can best prepare for wildfire. Presented by Jeffery Jackson, Firewise Specialist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. On Thursday, there will be two events on the Gunflint Trail, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 61 Bunn Trail (Off Hungry Jack Road), and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 473 South Gunflint Lake Road.  On Friday there will be two events, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 13 Wilderness Trail on Tom Lake, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1066 Golf Course Road.  More information at (218)-235-0899.

Bird Banding Demonstration

Sugarloaf Cove

On Thursdays from 7 a.m. to noon, Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center will be presenting on bird banding and monitoring the populations of songbirds that nest and travel through Sugarloaf Cove and adding to the growing research on North Shore birds. The public is invited to stop by to learn more about the banding process and its importance in understanding the lifespan, movement, and productivity of songbirds. Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery meets every Thursday at the Free Church in Grand Marais with a dinner starting at 5:30 and a program at 6:00 p.m. Celebrate Recovery is a faith-based program aimed at helping people find healing from addiction and other "hurts and hang-ups."

On Fridays, there's an "As Bill Sees It" Discussion Group Open Meeting, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Grand Marais.

Lighthouse Point Guided Tour

Cook County Historical Society has guided tours of lighthouse point every Saturday throughout the summer beginning at 1 p.m. The tour begins at the museum and will walk out to the lighthouse breakwater with a museum tour guide. The guide will point out the visible relics of the past and tell the stories of this small harbor and community. The tour will last approximately one hour and are weather permitting. Children must be accompanied by an adult. More information at ​218-387-2883.
