A recent road improvement project on the Gunflint Trail has altered the look of a famous local landmark.

The Pines, as they are often referred to, line a stretch of the Gunflint Trail about ten miles from Grand Marais. The trees are estimated to be around 350 years old and have served as the unofficial gateway to the Gunflint Trail for decades. So it came as a bit of a shock to some recently, when metal guardrails were installed along that well-known stretch of road. WTIP’s Carah Thomas has this report.
