The Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program, better known as WIC, is available for women who are pregnant or recently had babies. Parents of children under the age of five also are eligible for WIC. A family that qualifies for the WIC program receives education about nutrition, healthy foods from the grocery store every month, health and growth checkups for children, and breastfeeding information and support. More information about Cook County’s WIC program is available from Teresa Borak at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, 387-2330. Information also is available from the Minnesota State WIC office at 800-657-3942 or from the website, www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fh/WIC/index.
