The Cook County Community YMCA, adjacent to the school complex at 105 W 5th Street in Grand Marais, offers a variety of classes and activities.
Canned food month: February is canned food month. The Y invites community members to bring 3 items (or 6 per family) to the Y each Friday in February, and admission will be free.
EFCE open gym: Open gym is offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 11 am. Families are invited to play with equipment that builds motor skills and social skills.
After School All-Stars: The Y will welcome all kids from kindergarten through 5th grade to the After School All-Stars program on Mondays through Thursdays, from 3:30 to 6 pm. Monday is cooking and kitchen day; Tuesday is swim day, Wednesday is arts, crafts, and community service day; and on Thursday active activities will be offered.
Friday Madness: On Fridays when school is not in session, the Y offers "Friday Madness" from 8 to 4 pm, for ages 4+. Preregistration is required, and space is limited.
Parents' night out: March date pending, 5-8 pm. Activities are provided for kids ages 4 months and up, ending in a child-friendly movie. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited.
Winter II Session: Winter II programs run from February 23 to April 11. Programs include beginning log rolling classes, swim lessons for all ages, competitive swim team for all ages, preschool gym & swim, USTA Tennis, indoor soccer league, gymnastics, quigong, and Senior on Weights. Registration opens February 15.
Free family day: Sunday, March 1, from 1-5 pm. Activities include open gymnastics, open gym time with age-appropriate toys, game room, open kids' club, and swimming.
Wednesday Wellness series:
Stand-up paddle boarding: learning the basics, with Jack Stone, March 4, 5 pm, in the pool.
Kayaking skills, with Jack Stone, April 8, 5 pm, in the pool.
Ham Run Half Marathon: Early bird registration is now open for the Ham Run Half Marathon, 5K, and Little Runts Run, on May 2. Proceeds go towards program scholarships to make sure nobody is turned away from the Y for the inability to pay. Register and race sponsorships are available from the Y.
