YMCA classes, events, and announcements

The Cook County Community YMCA, adjacent to the school complex at 105 W 5th Street in Grand Marais, offers a variety of classes and activities.

EFCE open gym: Open gym is offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 11 am. Families are invited to play with equipment that builds motor skills and social skills. Parents are responsible for their children's supervision.

After School All-Stars: The Y will welcome all kids from kindergarten through 5th grade to the After School All-Stars program on Mondays through Thursdays, from 3:30 to 6 pm. Monday is cooking and kitchen day; Tuesday is swim day, Wednesday is arts, crafts, and community service day; and on Thursday active activities will be offered.  

Friday Madness: On Fridays when school is not in session, the Y offers "Friday Madness" from 8 to 4 pm, for ages 4+ for those that need childcare. Preregistration is required, and space is limited.

School's Out Spring Break:  The Y and Community Education will host spring break opportunities the week of March 30. Parents can enroll kids for games, crafts, activities, and time with friends. Registration is required and can be for a half day, a full day, or the full week. 
 
Free family day: Sunday, April 5, 11 am to 5 pm. Activities include open gymnastics, open gym time with age-appropriate toys, game room, open kids' club, and swimming.

 Healthy Kids Day: Saturday, April 25, 1-4 pm. This event is held at 1,800 YMCA's across the nation, to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. Community organizations are invited to host a booth with a health or safety activity, lesson, game, or prize. Local organizations interested in hosting a booth should contact the Y.

Parents' Night Out:  Saturday, April 25, 5-8 pm. Activities are provided for ages 4 months and up. Youth ages 5 and older can swim, and the evening will end with a child-friendly movie. Preregistration is required, and space is limited. 

Wednesday Wellness series:

Kayaking skills, with Jack Stone, April 8, 5 pm, in the pool.

Ham Run Half Marathon: Early bird registration is now open for the Ham Run Half Marathon, 5K, and Little Runts Run, on May 2. Proceeds go towards program scholarships to make sure nobody is turned away from the Y for the inability to pay.  Ham Run registration is open until May 1st.  However, in order to get a race T-shirt, participants need to be registered by April 5th. There will not be any registration on race day.  Registration and race sponsorships are available from the Y.
