Great Lakes water diversions & global water insecurity

Halfway around the world, another Great Lake, the Aral Sea, has lost 90 percent of its volume over the last 50 years. The reason? Diversions. While it's highly unlikely that something like that could happen to Lake Superior, the issue of diversions is not new to the North American Great Lakes. In the next edition of the Lake Superior Project, we take a closer look at the global water shortage and how the issue of diversions is relevant to our lake. Photo by kvitlauk on Flickr.
