Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP)

Who: 
Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP)

Affordable energy audits for all income levels in Cook County are being offered by the Residential Energy Efficiency Program. The program is designed to increase the energy efficiency of homes in Cook County using energy audits before and after improvement work. More information is available from Virginia Danfelt at 218-475-2274 .

Ruby's Pantry

Where: 
Cook County High School Cafeteria

Ruby’s Pantry holds food distributions on the second Tuesday of the month from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Cook County High School cafeteria. Participants must bring containers to receive food. All are welcome. Volunteers are needed from 3:30 pm until distribution ends at 6:30 pm. More information is available from Barbara Spaulding at 387-9535.

Safe Child Exchange Site

Who: 
North Shore Visitation Center

Separated or divorced parents who need a safe place to exchange children between them may contact the North Shore Visitation Center. The center offers a safe child exchange site in Grand Marais twice each week. More information is available at 370-1677 or 387-2522.

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic

As part of the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic 40th Anniversary project, you are invited to share your anecdotes and stories relating to how the Clinic has been a part of your life.  More information is available at 218-264-0520.

Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center

Where: 
9096 Highway 61, Schroeder, MN

Sugarloaf Cove Sugarloaf Cove is located approximately six miles southwest of Schroeder at mile 73.3. It is a 35-acre preserved site, with foot trails leading to a beautiful sheltered cove on the lake, and includes a 7.5-acre Minnesota Scientific and Natural Area, open to the public. Trails are open from dawn to dusk year-round. The Nature Center is not open regularly during the winter, but special programs are scheduled.

WIC Program for Young Families

The Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program, better known as WIC, is available for women who are pregnant or recently had babies. Parents of children under the age of five also are eligible for WIC. More information about Cook County’s WIC program is available from Teresa Borak at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, 387-2330.

Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church hosts a writers’ reading at the Johnson Heritage Post Friday, March 31st from 6 to 8 pm. The evening includes readings and Swedish folksongs by SVEA. More information is available from Rose at 387-4011.

WTIP Board of Directors Open Meeting

WTIP holds monthly meetings of the Board of Directors on the third Thursday of every month at 4 pm at WTIP, located at 1712 West Highway 61 in Grand Marais. The Community Advisory board meets annually.The public is invited to attend these meetings. For more information, contact Deb, at 218-387-1070.

YMCA

Where: 
105 West Fifth Street

The Cook County Community YMCA, adjacent to the school complex at 105 W 5th Street in Grand Marais, offers a variety of classes and activities.

Free family dayFirst Sunday of each month, 11 am to 5 pm. Activities include open gym time with age-appropriate toys, game room, open kids' club, and swimming.

Parents’ Night OutSecond Saturday of each month, 5-8 pm. Activities are provided for ages 4 months and up. Youth ages 5 and older will go swimming, and the evening will end with a child-friendly movie. Preregistration is required and space is limited.

The Cook County Youth Agency Coalition is offering Reach and Rise, a new mentoring program. Applications are being accepted for mentors and mentees. More information is available at the Y or online at cook county ymca dot org.
