Grand Marais Art Colony executive director resigns

Lyla Brown is leaving her position as the executive director of the Grand Marais Art Colony.

Brown has been with the Art Colony for approximately four years. She arrived to Cook County from Talbot County, Maryland, where she had a history of work involving housing, human resources, and leadership roles in the nonprofit sector.

Ruth Pszwaro, who serves as the artistic director at the Art Colony and was the co-executive director with Brown, will remain with the organization.

There will not be a search for a new director of the Art Colony, according to information shared with WTIP on Feb. 9. Rather, Pszwaro will serve as the director moving forward.

Brown’s last day with the Art Colony will be Feb. 28. She told the Art Colony of her plans to resign in early January, WTIP learned after asking leadership from the organization. Brown was hired in late fall 2018. She replaced the former director, Amy Demmer, who moved to Duluth with her family earlier in 2018.
