Northwoods Childcare expected to open mid-December

A new childcare business in Grand Marais is anticipated to open in the coming weeks.

Hunter MacLaurin, owner of Northwoods Childcare, began her aspiration to open a childcare business more than a year ago. After encountering a few obstacles with securing licensing and finding a location for the childcare business, she is happy to share that “it’s finally coming to an end.”

MacLaurin recently secured a space for her business in the First Congregational United Church of Christ and will operate her business in the South Room, which contains the area of the old daycare facility. She also recently secured up to $5,000 in financial assistance from the Economic Development Authority (EDA) through the business development fund to purchase furniture, storage equipment, and other childcare supplies and materials.

While a few final supplies and steps are needed before she can officially open the doors, MacLaurin said, “I’m just looking forward to providing care for families in the county and doing childcare because I really am passionate about it.”

As the opening day nears, she said, “I’ve had a lot of people reach out super excited for me and super proud of me to take on this journey. Everyone’s been super supportive.”

Northwoods Childcare will provide childcare for approximately 10 children and will accept ages six weeks to six years. The childcare business will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To learn more or contact Northwoods Childcare, call MacLaurin at 218-576-9911 or email at northwoodschildcarellc@gmail.com.
