Arrowhead Eagles award Jack Haussner with $2500 scholarship and Larry Hickman with $500 scholarship
The Arrowhead Eagles is a non-profit aviation organization formed over five years ago to help engage volunteers and raise money for scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing an aviation career or pilot’s license.
During the 2024 Arrowhead Eagles annual meeting at Skyport Lodge on May 18, Jack Haussner, an aspiring pilot and recent Cook County graduate, received a $2500 scholarship. Haussner is training in the Twin Cities to become a private pilot, intending to travel to Alaska to work towards becoming a bush pilot.
In addition to the $2500 scholarship, the Arrowhead Eagles awarded a $500 scholarship to Silver Bay resident Larry Hickman to continue aviation education. “He just finished his private pilot certificate and wants to start working on an instrument rating,” Mike Raymond, the Arrowhead Eagles president, said.
Raymond said the annual meeting on May 18 had a great turnout, with approximately 21 attendees. The meeting also featured the premier of a video produced by the Arrowhead Eagles to promote the Grand Marais/Cook County airport.
“We also had a great presentation from Chuck Lewer, formerly from Silver Bay, about his 30-plus years working as a crop duster,” Raymond said. “That was well received and enjoyed by all.”
The video produced by the Arrowhead Eagles and shown during the May 20 meeting is below.
In 2022, the Arrowhead Eagles awarded a $2,500 scholarship to Amy Kloster as she pursued her private pilot’s license. In 2023, the Arrowhead Eagles awarded $2500 to Cook County graduate Vaughn Swindlehurst and $1500 to Cook County resident Jordan Ekroot.
