Cook County hires new public health educator

Cook County hired a new public health educator Nov. 10 to continue the local effort to prepare for and help contain the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Jodi Tervo Roberts is the new public health educator for Cook County. She replaces Kristin DeArruda Wharton, who resigned to take another job in healthcare.

Tervo Roberts comes into the role with a degree of familiarity in public health, having spent the past several months working as a liaison between the local schools and the county’s public health department as they navigate the ongoing pandemic. Tervo Roberts will continue to work with the local schools in Cook County as she steps into her new role as the public health educator.

Tervo Roberts spoke with WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs about community health, the public health educator job and the COVID-19 health crisis. The audio posted below is their full conversation.
