Haugen was one of two canoeists who went missing on Saturday, May 18, after going over Curtain Falls while on a camping and fishing trip. The two canoeists were part of a group of four who went over Curtain Falls on May 18. Erik Michael Grams, 43, of Ham Lake, Minn., and Kyle Thomas Sellers, 47, were both rescued that day.
Search efforts continue to locate the second missing canoeist Reis Melvin Grams, 40, of Lino Lakes, Minn, officials said on May 31.
“Crews will continue searching into next week,” Nate Skelton, the division commander with the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, said. “Weather and water conditions continue to be a large factor in the search efforts, with further rainfall slated for later this weekend.”
The search operations include approximately 8-12 personnel on the ground at base camp. The search efforts are utilizing Zodiac boats, canoes, ROVs, drones, and K-9 teams in a variety of search methods in and around the vicinity. Additional staffing continues at Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and assistance with flight operations, officials said.
