The Vikings headed to Ely on Saturday, May 1 for an 11:00 a.m. game against the Timberwolves. The Vikings went five innings with the final score, Ely 13, Vikes 3.

WTIP spoke with Softball Coach Jessie Anderson at the start of the season, asking for a look ahead. Anderson said missing last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic hurt the softball program. She said the Vikings went into this season as perhaps the most inexperienced team she's ever been involved in coaching. Practice started with the fundamentals at the end of March.

Anderson told WTIP that there are 21 girls on the roster, from 7th to 12th grade.

WTIP asked Coach Anderson what she would like parents and the community to know. Anderson said, "It's definitely a rebuilding year.  Have patience and celebrate the little things with us."

The Vikings definitely celebrated their trek to Babbitt to face the Northeast Range Nighthawks on Thursday, April 29. The Vikings soundly defeated the Nighthawks, 18-0. Junior Katie Peck pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in that game.

There is a busy week ahead for the Vikings, with a game versus Esko on May 4, against Moose Lake/Willow River on Thursday, May 6 and versus Cromwell on Friday, May 7. All of the games are at the Grand Marais Recreation Park field, starting at 4 p.m.
