Cook County Parents Hold “Return to School Rally” on August 19

About 30 people gathered at Artists Point in Grand Marais at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 for what organizers described as a “Peaceful protest in support of our children going back to School.”

Participants ranged from toddlers being carried to grandparents, with a number of students carrying signs asking to return to school. Signs declared “We belong in school,” “Distance Learning Sucks,” “Kids need each other” and more.

Organizers hope to convince the School District 166 School Board to reverse its August 13 decision to begin the 2020-2021 school year with distance learning.

WTIP’s Rhonda Silence observed the gathering. Here’s a video report.
