Fika Coffee expands with new Grand Marais location opening Summer 2025

For more than a decade, Fika Coffee, a Lutsen-based coffee roaster and shop, has been bringing North Shore residents and visitors together over a cup of coffee.

Owner Josh Lindstrom says coffee is the best way to strike up a conservation and the only way to start a morning.

Over the years, Fika Coffee has expanded its individual and wholesale operations, grown its staff, and increased its impact and reach along the North Shore and across the U.S.

In early summer, Lindstrom will expand his business by opening a new 2,500 sq. ft. location in the Cedar Grove Business Park in Grand Marais.

The new building, which will serve as Fika Coffee’s main headquarters, includes space for roasting operations, an office, storage, a small kitchen, a coffee bar, a sauna, and a studio apartment for employee housing.

Once construction is complete in June or early July, Lindstrom said he plans to move coffee roasting operations from the Lutsen-based location to the new Grand Marais location. Although Fika Coffee’s roasting operations will be moved, the Lutsen coffee shop will remain open for the time being.

“I think for the foreseeable future, we’re going to keep that coffee shop in Lutsen,” Lindstrom said. “We’ve kind of grown quite the following there.”

Given the larger footprint, the new Fika Coffee headquarters will help streamline and improve roasting and packaging efficiencies. In addition, Lindstrom said, the new space will help “continue to build and share our culture with people and kind of express more of who we are and have the freedom to do that.”

After settling into the new building, Lindstrom plans to host roasting or coffee-based classes, give tours, hold pop-up coffee shop hours, and other events.

While a significant amount of construction remains until Fika Coffee headquarters will open, Lindstrom said he’s proud of the progress and growth of his business in the past couple of years. Lindstrom purchased a lot in the Cedar Grove Business Park in 2022 and began working with architects to design the new Fika Coffee headquarters.

He said one component of Fika Coffee’s growth throughout the years is credited to his employees. “I think a big part of 2024 for me is having those people who have decided to work here so now that I can grow with them, and they’re helping us grow as well.”

Although there’s still plenty to be done on the interior and exterior of the new building, Fika Coffee owner Josh Lindstrom gave WTIP’s Kalli Hawkins a tour of the space, sharing his vision for its future and its significance for Fika Coffee’s long-term growth.
