GES hosts pancake breakfast and plant sale on May 20

Since early March, Great Expectations School (GES) students have been learning about the natural world and tending to many plants.

“From the age of kindergarten, all the way up to the eighth graders, everybody’s getting a hand in not only just seeding but transplanting, learning about the plant’s needs,” William Choi, the science teacher at GES, said.

After learning and caring for the wide variety of plants, GES hosts an annual plant sale, providing plants for the community and raising money to support the school’s mission.

“Our whole greenhouse is filled with flowers, vegetables, and herbs,” Choi said. “We’re really excited to see how the community anticipates the plant sale.”

The Annual Great Expectations School plant sale is happening this Saturday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The variety of plants available during the plant sale includes cherry tomatoes, sun gold tomatoes, sweet basil, Genovese basil, rosemary, marjoram, dill, petunias, sunflowers, squash, zucchini, broccoli, and much more.

In addition to the plant sale, GES will host a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m.

WTIP’s CJ Heithoff spoke with William Choi, the science teacher at GES, about the upcoming event. The audio from the interview is below.
