Le Grand Du Nord cycling event happening on May 27 in Grand Marais
The 8th edition of Le Grand Du Nord Gravel Cycling Classic will begin at the Grand Marais Harbor on Saturday, May 27.
The Le Grand Du Nord cycling event begins in downtown Grand Marais and weaves through the challenging terrain of the Sawtooth Mountain Range. The cycling event is divided into three lengths: a 110-mile course, 54 miles, and a 26-mile “marathon” route.
“The thing I love about our gravel events and the gravel cycling, in general, is that it takes all types of riders with all different types of abilities to a certain degree, and everyone’s got their own goal,” Jeremy Kershaw, the race director of the Le Grand Du Nord, said.
Kershaw anticipates nearly 700 riders will participate in the May 27 cycling event. “We’ve got a hearty group. So we’re hoping somewhere around the 700 range.”
The riders will have staggered starts, with the 110-mile race beginning at 8 a.m. Kershaw expects riders to return to downtown Grand Marais between noon and 3 p.m.
“I’ll be at the finish line greeting them all,” Kershaw said.
