2025 Gunflint Mail Run postponed due to poor snow conditions
The 2024 Gunflint Mail Run was cancelled due to poor snow conditions. The organizers of the 2025 Mail Run have announced that this year’s race has been delayed for the same reason.
Race organizer Cathy Quinn told WTIP that despite the snowy start to the winter, the recent warm temperatures and rain have impacted trail conditions to the extent that the race’s board of directors have made the difficult decision to postpone the race.
Quinn said, “We need probably close to a foot of snow before race day to get the trail back into a safe a safe condition for for running a team.” She added that though at this time there is not a new date selected, she hopes to have one finalized in the coming days. The race is staffed by organizers, along with roughly 100 volunteers, and Quinn said that they want to give both mushers and race facilitators enough time to change their plans.
WTIP’s CJ Heithoff spoke with Gunflint Mail Run organizer Cathy Quinn about the delay to this year’s race. Audio of that interview can be found below.
