29 North Shore artists featured at exhibition event at Phipps Center for the Arts in Wisconsin
The art of 29 members of the North Shore Artists League is on display from May 12-July 9 at the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wis.
The North Shore Artists League was established in 2019 and consisted of artists living on the North Shore stretching from Duluth to Grand Portage. The North Shore Artists League is organized by artists, for artists, as a place to network, learn, be inspired, promote and share the artist’s life along the northern reaches of Lake Superior. Numerous artists in the North Shore Artists League frequently exhibit their work at the Johnson Heritage Post Gallery, Sivertson Gallery, and other locations in Grand Marais.
For the upcoming event at the Phipps Center for the Arts, the 29 artists were tasked with interpreting the exhibit theme of “Living On The Edge” and creating a piece of original art in their chosen medium/media.
WTIP’s Kalli Hawkins spoke with two of the artists featured at the upcoming exhibit event.
Greg Mueller is a Lutsen-based artist who creates public art that joins the poetic craft of sculpture with the creative intervention of spaces.
Neil Sherman is a Hovland-based artist who creates Plein-air style artwork that captures the feeling of the day and place.
Both artists shared how they interpreted the “Living On The Edge” theme and some insights into their process.
