Notes from Reservation River – Going to Work with Tom

Jess Koski writes from his home at Chi Onigaming, the Grand Portage Reservation. In this episode he visits the libraries, rocks and outhouses of Mallard Island on Rainy Lake, where his friend Tom helps care for the Ernest Oberholtzer cabin–a destination for writers and others in search of quiet respite and creative time. The retreat is managed by The Ernest Oberholtzer Foundation, whose mission is to “foster Ober’s legacy and North Woods island home as a source of inspiration, renewal, and connection to Indigenous Peoples, kindred spirits, and the natural world.
