Arrowhead Eagles host annual fly-in/drive-in pancake breakfast on September 28

Come rain or shine, there will be warm blueberry pancakes at the annual fly-in/drive-in gathering at the Grand Marais/Cook County Airport this Saturday.

On Saturday, September 28, the Arrowhead Eagles will host the annual fly-in/drive-in pancake breakfast at the Grand Marais/Cook County Airport. The event will take place from 8-11 a.m. and is open to the public.

The Arrowhead Eagles is a non-profit organization formed over five years ago to help engage volunteers and raise money for scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing an aviation career or pilot’s license. Since its formation, the organization has given away multiple scholarships and involved a dedicated volunteer group.

Most recently, the Arrowhead Eagles awarded a $2500 scholarship to Jack Haussner, an aspiring pilot and recent Cook County graduate. Haussner is training in the Twin Cities to become a private pilot, intending to travel to Alaska to work towards becoming a bush pilot. In addition to the $2500 scholarship, the Arrowhead Eagles awarded a $500 scholarship to Silver Bay resident Larry Hickman to continue aviation education.

The upcoming annual fly-in/drive-in event will include pancakes, static airplane displays, and airplane rides, said President of Arrowhead Eagles Mike Raymond.

“So the weather’s looking good, and we’re hoping for a good turnout for airplanes flying in and people coming up to the airport to check us out and have a good pancake breakfast,” Raymond said. “We’ll have discount airplane rides, 40 bucks per person for 20 minutes to go look at the fall colors.”

Additionally, the event is an opportunity for youth and individuals to learn more about scholarship opportunities and details on how to apply.

For additional information, contact the airport at 218-387-3024 or visit the Arrowhead Eagles Facebook page.

WTIP’s Kalli Hawkins spoke with Raymond about the annual fall event and who will be manning the pancake station. The audio from the interview is below.
