Boys and girls ski teams both take first place at section meet

It was epic.

Those are the words Cook County Alpine Ski Coach John Oberholtzer used to describe the local ski team’s performance during section meet. The Cook County Alpine ski team traveled to Giant’s Ridge for the Section 7 meet on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Competing against more than a dozen other teams, the boys’ and girls’ teams both finished in first place. Oberholtzer says he believes this is the first time Cook County has ever had both teams win the section in the same season.

The teams will compete next at the state meet on Tuesday, February 14.  The state meet will also be held at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.

Individually, Cook County skiers also had great results.  Ray Dressley finished 1st in a field of more than 100 competitors.  Cy Oberholtzer finished 3rd, Goshi Dimitrov in 8th, and Graham Oberholtzer in 9th.  Leading the girls’ team, Kalina Dimitrova placed 3rd, followed by Genevieive Silence in 4th.
