Cook County Class of 1974 prepares for 50th reunion
Fisherman’s Picnic is a time of year that many in Grand Marais look forward to.
This year, classmates of the Cook County High School class of 1974 are particularly excited about the upcoming annual festive event, which marks the 50th anniversary of the graduating class.
“We’re just trying to get the word out to everyone, so we don’t lose touch with anyone that might consider coming,” 1974 Classmate Kristy Cramblet said.
Cramblet and classmate Heidi Sobanja are leading the 50th reunion gathering and have planned several activities for the 95th annual Fisherman’s Picnic.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m., the 1974 class will tour the Cook County High School. Then, afterward, the class will head to the Grand Marais Recreation Park pavilion for a reunion cook-out from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Cramblet and Sobanja said classmates and attendees are invited to bring a dish, something to grill, beverages, and a chair.
The class reunion attendees will then gather again on Sunday, Aug. 4 for the Fisherman’s Picnic parade. “We’ve got a float set up,” Cramblet said.
While the reunion is for 1974 classmates, Sobanja and Cramblet said staff, former teachers, and classmates of 1973 and 1975 are also invited to attend. Cramblet said it would be nice to “have a little more people to visit with and memories to share.”
“So we’re just opening it up. All are welcome,” Cramblet said.
