Dappled Fern Fibers releases ‘We Love Grand Marais’ yarn line featuring small businesses and landmarks

On August 2, there was a line out front of Dappled Fern Fibers next to Beth’s Fudge and Gifts in anticipation of the release of a new yarn line called ‘We Love Grand Marais.’

The new small batch hand-dyed yarn line featuring colorways of small businesses, Grand Marais landmarks, and treasured places was inspired by owner Dorothy Broomall and Holly and Erin of Stitch Stuff Yarn.

“We started dreaming up what colors of yarn might look like inspired by Grand Marais,” said Broomall. From that conversation, the following eight locations were chosen:

1. Beach Knitting – inspired by the Lake Superior beach and the vintage style beach chairs that Broomall and Holly, and Erin spend time knitting
2. Drury Lane Books – A dreamy take on the little white house with lupine and buttercup trim.
3. World’s Best Donuts – red and white like the colors of the logo, with a play on donut sprinkles
4. Java Moose Coffee – latte with a bit of swirling foam and chocolate sprinkles
5. Voyageur Brewing – softened colors of the blue and orange brewery logo. “Imagine sitting on the rooftop overlooking the harbor at sunset,” Broomall said. 
6. Mother Superior – inspired by Mary Ellen Ashcroft, who helped start Dappled Fern Fibers
7. Artist’s Point – speckled with blue, green, and gold, just like the lichen and trees
8. Fall Knit Camp – inspired by the Dappled Fern annual retreats in September at Devil Track Lake Cabins

While Broomall said she loves all the colors, she intends to use the Artist’s Point colorway first for a fun knitting project. She said she is excited to see what creative designs fellow knitters create.

“I’m looking forward to seeing things on the street knit up,” Broomall said. “I’m so thankful for the businesses who agreed to participate in this. I’m really excited to just share my love for this quirky town and see where this goes.”

The ‘We Love Grand Marais’ yarn line is available at Dappled Fern Fibers and online. Broomall said the yarn line is a fingering weight yarn base intended for scarves, socks, t-shirts, or shawls and will she will have more yarn weights available in the fall.
