End of the school year field trip to Grand Portage

Story by Ezme Mundell – youth volunteer for WTIP

I am a 5th grade student at GES. To close up the school year the kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades went on a field trip to grand portage national monument.

The 5th and 6th graders have been learning about Minnesota history. When we first got there my 5th and 6th grade class watched a short movie about the fur trade, then we headed to check out the great hall which included a couple different rooms with furs, food, clothing and other things people would trade.

There was a badger fur toothbrush and a fawn rice bag. After checking out the great hall, we ate lunch at the Grand Portage State Park! It was so buggy!!!

Then we took a hike to High Falls. The waterfalls had some great views and was really pretty! They had a few different heights for looking at the waterfalls so you can look from low or high. After looking at the waterfalls we started heading back. This field trip was a blast and is a great way to get outdoors and see the waterfall.
