Historical Society Director Katie Clark steps down, Aliya Marxen to serve as interim director
As the Cook County Historical Society prepares for the annual Oct. meeting and the upcoming celebration of its centennial year, some changes are taking place within the director position.
The Cook County Historical Society announced on Sept. 3 that after five fulfilling years, Director Katie Clark is stepping down to pursue long-awaited creative endeavors.
During the transition period, Aliya Marxen, the current gallery manager at Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery, will serve as the interim director.
“With a business degree and a successful track record of transforming JHP into a vibrant and professional space, Aliya is well-equipped to guide CCHS through this important phase,” Clark said in a press release. “Her leadership will play a pivotal role in our organization’s long-term success and resilience.”
In recent years, the Historical Society has taken significant steps to refine the collection of historical photographs, oral histories, and historical sites, Clark said. “We’ve enhanced our preservation practices, reducing the risk of loss and creating more opportunities to share these invaluable items with the public. Our commitment to maintaining historical sites has intensified through consultations, studies, and essential repairs and upgrades.”
Clark’s last day serving as director will be Sept. 15.
As her final days as director nears, she said, “I am confident that these changes will bring new opportunities, foster growth, and lead to a bright future for CCHS. I look forward to watching the organization’s progress and supporting it in any way I can as they embark on the next 100 years!”
