New business Sawtooth Knife & Tool opens in Grand Marais
A new business is opening its doors just in time for Father’s Day this weekend.
Sawtooth Knife & Tool is located in the Coldwell building on 1st Avenue W in downtown Grand Marais. The venture is an opportunity for the new owner, Guy Mattson, to turn a passion into a small business.
Mattson has been visiting Grand Marais for the past decade with his family. During his time in Grand Marais, he noticed a lack of knives, axes, and everyday carry products in town.
When Mattson finally moved to Grand Marais two years ago, he was inspired to fill a need in the community. With the proximity and abundance of outdoor recreation activities in Northern Minnesota, he thought it would be an excellent opportunity for a business.
“It is something I love. A lot of what’s here is personally curated by me. Stuff I’ve been familiar with for years,” Mattson said.
He added, “I’m excited to just share that with everyone who comes here, and I think people will be excited about it too.“
In addition to being a new business owner, Mattson is a personal injury lawyer. His extensive background dealing with personal injuries influenced his decision to offer medical kit supplies and even a basket full of free band-aids.
Sawtooth Knife & Tool will be opening on June 17. Mattson plans to be open on the weekends and by appointment only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
