On Jan. 1, at 11:15 a.m., a Minnesota State Trooper located a Mitsubishi Gallant driving east on Hwy 61 toward Grand Marais near mile marker 110 after the driver, 31-year-old Brenden Charles Sanders, from Falcon Heights, Minn., failed to stop at the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol crossing at the Grand Portage Port of Entry.
The state trooper attempted to stop the Mitsubishi, but Sanders did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated southbound on Hwy 61.
The Cook County Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks east of Grand Marais. As the driver neared the city limits, the trooper discontinued the pursuit. The Mitsubishi was located at the Holiday gas station in Grand Marais, and the driver was taken into custody without incident. The Minnesota State Patrol said charges are pending for Sanders for fleeing.
The driver was transported to the hospital for an evaluation. No injuries are reported.
The State Patrol was assisted by Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials.
