Updated 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 28

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Saturday, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stabbing inside the Cook County Co-op grocery store in downtown Grand Marais.

First responders arrived on scene, provided medical aid to the victim, and transported the victim by ambulance to North Shore Health. According to Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen, the suspect left the grocery store following the incident but was located and apprehended shortly afterward with the help of descriptions provided by bystanders.

Eliasen said the suspect is in custody and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Following the incident, the Cook County Co-op closed for the remainder of Saturday and announced in an email sent to co-op members and staff that it would remain closed on Sunday, Dec. 28.

The email also stated that the Saturday assault involved one of the Co-op employees.

The incident remains under investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said.

This is a developing story.  WTIP will update this article as more information is made available.
