Photos: The Heights ribbon cutting and building tours
The developers behind The Heights, Bluffs apartments on Highway 61 held a ribbon-cutting for the project on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The ceremony was kept short due to inclement weather, but for several hours after the event the public was welcome to tour the space.
Construction is still ongoing, with a projected opening for occupancy later this winter, but several units were available for visitors to view. Gary Latz, the project manager behind the 36-unit building, told WTIP that throughout the day, 109 individuals went on tours, and others stopped by the site and spoke with the developers.
At the ribbon cutting, both Linda Jurek, executive director of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce, and Latz spoke briefly. Jurek expressed excitement over the new housing options coming to the county. Latz thanked local partners, the Cook County Housing Redevelopment Authority, the City of Grand Marais, Cook County, and local investors in the project. He added that between the Heights and the Gunflint Vue development, which opened earlier this year, the influx of housing could “transform the county.”
Audio of both Jurek’s and Latz remarks, along with photos from the event, can be found below.
