Visitors, cold weather mean busy times for emergency responders
Winter brings a lot of fun to the Northland – but it can also bring danger. For example, the weekend of January 22-23, sent Cook County emergency responders out on three calls in extremely frigid cold weather—a snowmobile accident on Devil Track Lake, an overdue cross-country skier near the end of the Gunflint Trail, and a possible broken leg at Lutsen Mountains Ski Hill.
WTIP’s Rhonda Silence checked in with Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen to learn more about these incidents and about what it is like for our local emergency responders to answer these calls. WTIP also got some good advice from the sheriff on what you should think about before heading out to recreate this winter.
