WTIP News Department wins several awards from Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists

WTIP won several awards at the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists Page One Awards ceremony Wednesday night in St. Paul. The station took third place in the investigative reporting category for a report on a possible brain cancer cluster in Cook County that was written and produced by Joe Friedrichs.

Friedrichs worked with KFAI in Minneapolis on a documentary about the history of fire in the Boundary Waters, which won first place in the in depth reporting category.  Friedrichs was also recognized with an honorable mention in the Journalist of the Year category.

“It was great to see a number of smaller newsrooms across the state being recognized during an event where the biggest media companies in Minnesota were up for the same awards,” Friedrichs said of the Page One Awards this year.

Media companies and journalists from all across Minnesota were present for the award ceremony held July 26 at the Minnesota History Center in downtown St. Paul. Earlier this year, WTIP won six awards from the Minnesota Broadcast Journalists Association and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
