New business Gunflint Trail Property Services offers maintenance to cabin and resort owners
After years of working maintenance at resorts along the Gunflint Trail, Mike Kwasniewicz decided it was time to start his own independent venture. Most recently, Kwasniewicz formed his new business, Gunflint Trail Property Services, to provide various services to cabin and resort owners on the Gunflint Trail.
The business offers chimney sweeping, cabin cleaning, dock construction, landscaping, firewood, painting & staining, plumbing, and a handful of other services. “If you’ve got a project that needs to be done, either I can do it, or I know someone that can,” said Kwasniewicz.
Kwasniewicz said he felt there was a real need in the Gunflint Trail community for this level of service and work. “So, I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring.”
And he wasn’t wrong. “It’s been pretty successful so far. I’ve got more jobs than I think I can tackle in the next couple of weeks before it freezes,” Kwasniewicz said.
Currently, he is working on refinishing the exterior of Rockwood’s original lodge, which was built in the 1930s.
As the winter season quickly approaches, Kwasniewicz said he is trying to build up the books for interior projects. He said he hopes to stay busy with maintenance, firewood, and snow plowing throughout the winter.
Kwasniewicz said overall, the response from the community and the demand for labor on the Gunflint Trail is astronomical. “I’ve seen a great response from folks so far.”
He shared some parting words of advice for individuals looking to start their own business in Cook County, “If you got a dream like that, just chase it down and make it happen.”
