Community gathers for annual summer solstice pageant

Story by WTIP Youth Volunteer Ezme Mundell

The Solstice Pageant is an annual event at North House Folk School that took place on Saturday, June 22.

This year’s pageant theme was ‘The Eclipse of the Heart.’ The storyline included a giant-person puppet, lots of mushroom puppets of different sorts, stilt walkers, ants costumes, a scary surprise centipede, and a giant Mycelium.

A highlight for me was the live band that played the songs for all the different scenes!  Many people put a ton of work into this pageant, which was a huge success. I would like to give a shout-out to the directors of the pageant, Olya Wright, Jeanne Wright, and Lindsey Gau, for putting in their time and effort to make the show happen! Lots of people enjoyed it! I sure did, too!

Getting to help make props and then perform with such fun puppets was a real joy! At the start of the pageant there was some drops of rain that worried the cast! The puppets are mostly made of paper-matched cardboard, so rain could have been bad. At the end though there was a beautiful rainbow and the sun came out beautiful in the sky! It looked like a fire in the sky! Can’t wait for next year!
