Avoid trip to the courthouse for voter registration by filing online by July 21

Cook County Auditor Braidy Powers reminds citizens that registering for the upcoming Primary is easier and safer if you do so by July 21.

Powers says it is easier because all you need to do now is go online to mnvotes.org and fill out the registration form electronically or download the form and return it by mail.

You can still register online after July 21, but you will need to physically visit the Cook County courthouse or a city polling place to vote on Tuesday, August 11, bringing your registration information with you. Auditor Powers cautions that it will be a slow process and you may wait in lines because of COVID-19 protocols.

In Minnesota, same day registration is allowed, however it must be done in person with the proper proof of residency. It is a slow process on a regular election day, in this COVID-19 pandemic, it will be even slower.

Registering early online is also safer because you do not have to interact with anyone in person to register, or to cast your vote on Tuesday, August 11.

The online option is only available until the end of the day by July 21.
