Onion River Hike

Story by WTIP youth volunteer Ezme Mundell

On Saturday, August 17th, I went to Ray Berglund’s Wayside Rest to hike Onion River with my cousins Kashala, Henry, Addie, my aunt Jen, sister Bea, and mom. First, we climbed a set of stairs and went down a cute little path. Then, when we got to the water the fun started and it started to look amazing.

The rocks had beautiful crystals and different spotted patterns that looked amazing under the water flow. Right as I stepped in the water it was ice cold but I ended up getting my entire body wet. I was the only one to wear a swimsuit because we have done river hikes before and I know I will always end up fully wet and swimming. I was the leader out of my cousins because they wanted me to find out which spots were deepest given I was already soaked! I would lead my little sister Bea into deep spots and we would swim around together!

When we got to the end of the river hike there was a big long waterfall that we got to sit under! It was so cool! My cousin Kashala fell in the water and ended up swimming the way back! On the way back down the river, Bea named the water currents ‘Little Water Slides’.

Overall I totally recommend you stop by there and don’t forget to wear a swimsuit!
