Two Cook County football players sign letters of intent for University of Wisconsin-River Falls

Cade Smith and Hunter Rex, two senior Cook County High School football players, signed letters of intent on Feb. 6 to play next year at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

“It’s a pretty deal for our futures,” Cade Smith said. “I’m excited about it.”

Cade Smith said he grew up listening to his dad tell stories about playing high school football. It inspired him to play high school football and continue on a path to college football. “That’s kind of what drove me. I wanted to be like my dad.”

“I wanted to live those experiences like he did,” Smith said.

Smith said he wants to thank his dad for pushing him and “believing in me every step of the way.” He also thanked his teammates, coaches, and Rex’s parents.

Hunter Rex said, “I would like to thank my parents, especially. They’re the biggest part of my success so far.” Rex also thanked his coaches, Steven Anderson and Mike Theismann, and his dad, who is also a coach, Theo Rex.
