Grand Marais city hall and liquor store reopen in new building

After nearly a year, city staff and liquor store operations are back under one roof.

The newly constructed Grand Marais city hall/liquor store opened its doors on Monday, March 24.

City staff and services have resumed regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The liquor store also opened its doors to the public on March 24.

During the Wednesday, March 26, Grand Marais City Council meeting, Liquor Store Manager Chris LaVigne provided a liquor store update to city councilors.

“It’s a great space,” LaVigne said.

He said the city has officially moved out and cleaned up the Beaver House, which has been the temporary location of the liquor store for the past year.

The liquor store is still waiting on an exterior sign that should be installed in the coming weeks. LaVigne also said there are a handful of tasks yet to do in the interior space, which he and his staff will continue working on.

Most of all, LaVigne said it is “really nice to have space” and will allow the city to increase the variety and quantity of items in the store.

An official ribbon-cutting event and grand opening for the new city hall/liquor store building will be scheduled in May.
