Sawtooth Mountain Mobile Vet to bring in-home pet care to Cook County this May

In a few weeks, a new mobile veterinary service will launch in Cook County, offering in-home wellness care.

Sawtooth Mountain Mobile Vet, owned by Cook County resident and veterinarian Katie Neshek, will provide annual vaccines, blood work, long-term management of diseases such as diabetes or chronic kidney disease, in-home euthanasia, and behavior services.

“The goal with the in-home aspect of it is to increase accessibility,” Neshek said. For individuals unable to travel or for families with busy schedules, she said the mobile service will offer pet owners flexibility. In addition, in-home care will help the cat or dog that may be stressed about going to a vet clinic for treatment.

“So getting them their treatments and their care in their home where they feel most comfortable,” Neshek said.

Pets that need more extensive medical treatment, like dental care or surgery, Neshek said, she will refer clients to seek care at Cedar Grove Veterinary Clinic in Grand Marais or another regional clinic.

Throughout the years, Neshek has worked alongside Dr. Nadder Samari, owner of Cedar Grove Veterinary Clinic, for the annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. For the past decade, Neshek has worked as a veterinarian for the sled dog race, and for the last five years, served as the head veterinarian.

She said she’s had conversations with Dr. Samari about launching her mobile business and the collaboration opportunities between the two business owners.

“We have very similar goals in providing good quality care for the pets of Cook County,” Neshek said. Since the closure of Lake County Veterinary Clinic’s location in Grand Marais, there has only been one brick-and-mortar clinic to care for pets in the county.

Sawtooth Mountain Mobile Vet will begin accepting clients towards the end of April and officially start seeing four-legged clients for in-home care in early May.

So far, Neshek said she’s received an “overwhelmingly positive response” from the Cook County community since word of her new business has spread.

“I think everyone’s a little bit excited to have more options and just additional support in the area,” Neshek said.
