Split Rock Lighthouse annual beacon lighting commemorating the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Fifty-one years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in a terrible storm on Lake Superior with the loss of its entire crew.

To commemorate the event, the Split Rock Lighthouse beacon has been lit on the anniversary of the sinking – November 10th – every year since 1985.

Split Rock Lighthouse site manager Hayes Scriven talks about the history of the event and plans for this year’s ceremony in this interview with North Shore Morning host CJ Heithoff.
