A conversation on birth and music with Courtney Hartman and Britt Malec
Eau Claire-based musician Courtney Hartman’s latest album With You is a collection of songs themed around motherhood, many of which were written during the birth of her first child. She joins Will Moore on The Scenic Route alongside local singer and birth doula Britt Malec. Together, Britt and Courtney talk about the intersection of the birth experience and music, sharing their own stories about making art around a time of such great vulnerability and change, and finding ways to do so with honesty. The conversation comes after a performance by Hartman and S Carey at the Spirit of the Wilderness Church in Grand Marais.
