Arrowhead Cooperative calls for energy conservation amid extreme cold

Arrowhead Cooperative and operators of the electric transmission system in the northeast Minnesota region have issued a “maximum generation emergency event” and are asking its members to do their part to conserve electricity today.

The extreme cold temperatures are putting stress on the electric grid, and electric cooperatives are asking members to conserve energy today to help reduce that stress.

Arrowhead Cooperative is making a conservation appeal after all other efforts to reduce electricity demand or to increase supply have been explored and implemented.

Arrowhead Cooperative said in a Saturday morning statement that it takes the responsibility to supply energy to its members very seriously and is making this request only after exhausting all other options. “So please cut back on energy use today,” said Arrowhead Cooperative.
