Care Partners set to relocate to a new space this January
Care Partners of Cook County will kick off the new year in a new location in Grand Marais.
After 10 years, based inside the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic building, the nonprofit, which provides various community-oriented services to families and elders, will relocate to the AMAX Plumbing & Heating building at 615 East Hwy 61.
On Sept. 30, Care Partners was notified that given the expansion of the behavioral health services and staff at Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, Care Partners would need to find a new office space for its operations.
“Our community, I’m sure, is so grateful that they have been able to expand their behavioral health program and need more space,” said Julie Wilson, executive director of Care Partners of Cook County. “That’s good for all of us.”
Wilson said the Care Partners staff are beginning to prepare and pack for the upcoming move. The organization’s staff will transition to remote work for the remainder of December and the beginning of January. In the meantime, the newly leased space inside the AMAX building will begin construction preparations to adapt and update the space to suit Care Partners’ operations.
Recently, Care Partners was approved for a $25,000 grant from the Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) during the Nov. 19 meeting. The grant funding will bring the office space to compliance with ADA requirements and include updates to flooring, lighting, signage, electrical outlets, and more.

Care Partners new office space in January 2025
Wilson said Care Partners also received funding from the Lloyd. K. Johnson Foundation for help with the expenses. “So we’re grateful for that.”
The official move-in date for the new space is yet to be determined, but Wilson said January 2025 is the goal. Wilson said Care Partners is seeking help from volunteers and the community to move furniture and office items. If anyone is interested, contact Care Partners of Cook County at 218-387-3788.
