Cook County Fall sports underway

Story by WTIP youth volunteer Ezme Mundell

Fall sports are getting started wonderfully!

I am glad to be part of the cross-country running team that started the season on August 29 with our first home meet, The North Shore Challenge. The weather was beautiful and participants had great races at Pincushion Mountain. I wish the team luck as we head to our first away meet in Superior on Thursday, September 5th.

Some of my friends have been filling me in on the start of the 7th-grade volleyball season – there have been two games already. I was lucky to get to watch Cook County take on Cherry here in Grand Marais. They lost but it was close and they took a win at their away game in Cromwell so they were pretty happy.

On the High School football side –  unfortunately, the Vikings lost the first away game against Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers. They are hoping for a great comeback to start the season at their next away game this Friday at 6 pm in Bigfork. So exciting! The first Vikings football home game of the season is on September 13th at 6pm. Go watch some of the games for fun or tune in to the WTIP radio for live broadcasting of the games home or away, it’s all there. What a great way to start the fall season!
