Cook County Schools launch public survey to gauge interest in November 2025 referendum

In recent months, Cook County School ISD 166 has discussed how to reengage with the public regarding a potential November 2025 bond referendum for school facilities and ground improvements.

In February, the school launched a survey for staff and parents to gauge interest in revisiting Questions Two and Three from the November 2024 referendum, which Cook County voters did not approve.

The February survey results from the 213 staff and parent respondents showed that 70% of respondents voted yes to support a 2025 referendum to fund improvements for the school.

With data showing support from parents and staff for a November 2025 referendum, the school district wanted to reach out to the larger Cook County community and collect feedback.

On April 10, the school district launched a community survey. The survey will take approximately five to ten minutes, and the responses will be anonymous.

The school district is seeking alternative funding to help cover the cost of the improvements included in Questions Two and Three. In an interview with WTIP, Superintendent Chris Lindholm said he was able to secure a $7 million match from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation (IRRR) contingent on Cook County Schools passing a November 2025 referendum.

• Question Two includes improvements to the school’s grounds, athletics, and art spaces, including artificial turf for athletics fields, a running track, and updated theater equipment and seating. In November 2024, however, Question Two failed to pass, with Cook County residents voting No 1,847—Yes 1,677.
• Question Three included improvements to add an additional gymnasium to support physical education, athletics, and community recreation. Question Three failed to pass in November 2024, with Cook County residents voting No 1,993 – Yes 1,504.
