Cook County teacher Melissa Oberg wins Educator of the Year award from Minnesota Rural Education Association

The immeasurable impact a teacher has on a student’s life is both significant and enduring.

Each year, teachers across Minnesota are recognized for their commitment and dedication to their students during the annual Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) conference. 

This year, a Cook County teacher was acknowledged and awarded an Educators of Excellence award during the Nov. 12 Minnesota Rural Education Association ceremony in Brainerd. 

Melissa Oberg, a special education teacher at ISD 166, was one of four teachers to receive a Minnesota Rural Education Association Educators of Excellence award. The award ceremony celebrates and showcases the incredible work happening in the Greater Minnesota school districts. 

The 2023 MREA Educators of Excellence are:

  • Kristen Doeden – Worthington School District // South Zone
  • Carin Hagemeyer – Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa School District // South Central Zone
  • Angie Hurtig – Bertha-Hewitt School District // North Central Zone
  • Melissa Oberg – Cook County School District // North Zone

The 2023 Innovation Program Award honorees are:

  • Prairie Science Program // Fergus Falls School District
  • Nature-Based Kindergarten Experience Program // Kasson-Mantorville School District
