Crosby Fire is 95% contained, Superior Hiking Trail reopening

The Crosby Fire, located primarily within the George H. Crosby Manitou State Park has remained at approximately 300 acres for the last several days.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 15, the fire is 95% contained, according to the Lake County Emergency Management.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

The closed Superior Hiking Trail segment between Cramer Rd/County Rd 7 and Caribou Falls State Wayside in the state park will reopen on, Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8 a.m.

Out of an abundance of caution, hikers must stay on the trail. Many nearby trees are fire-weakened, which poses a falling danger, according to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials. Individuals may see ashes from the Crosby Fire in the vicinity and may see or smell smoke in the area. DNR officials said “It is not a cause for alarm, the fire is being monitored daily by firefighting crews.”
