Fatality on Seagull Lake on the Gunflint Trail

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement regarding a missing person on Seagull Lake at the end of the Gunflint Trail that resulted in a fatality on Monday morning. 

Cook County dispatch received a call of a missing person on Seagull Lake at approximately 11:24 p.m. on May 14. Due to the time that the call came in, law enforcement decided that search efforts would begin immediately the following morning.

Cook County Search and Rescue began to mobilize to include water, ground, and air searches of the area adjacent to where the person was last seen. It was reported that the party was last seen paddling towards Trails End Campground. 

The party was wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) and was an experienced canoeist.

Following search efforts, the body of 63 year old Mickeal Ray Brown, of Montgomery, Texas was found in the water. The body will be transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner Office for an autopsy.

Responding units include Cook County/Gunflint Trail Search & Rescue, U.S.F.S., and Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
